Rolfing®

Reset your body and the way you use it from head to fingers and toes

A 10-Session protocol that treats the entire body to bring about long-lasting changes in pain, posture and athletic performance.

Rolfing improves functional relationships between all parts of the body to reduce bodily suffering, improve alignment and restore vitality. Together we’ll aim to relieve your symptoms while building a self-care and self-awareness toolkit so that the effects really last.

Benefits of Rolfing

Rolfing is a therapeutic process which zooms out and views you as a whole person. Rather than focusing only on short-term relief of localized symptoms, we look to make the entire system more balanced and resilient to produce lasting changes in how you feel, move, and breathe in your body. Specifically, we work with fascia and the nervous system, both of which extend throughout the body and connect everything to everything else. For some people, these physical changes may be accompanied by psychoemotional and spiritual evolution. As Rolfers, we do not force any kind of change but rather seek to meet you where you are at and guide you towards what Ida Rolf referred to as improved structural integration in service of your goals.

Because all parts of the body are addressed over 10 sessions, Rolfing can be helpful for many issues including but not limited to pain, restriction, laxity, and/or excessive tension in the back, neck, jaw, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles and feet. It can also be useful for overuse injuries/strain and nerve impingement problems such as sciatica and carpal tunnel. Rolfing is famous for producing big changes in posture & alignment as the body’s relationship to gravity improves.

You’ll work closely with your Rolfer® to gain an embodied understanding of how your alignment, movement, and perhaps even psychoemotional habits may be creating discomfort and find real resolution both within and beyond your work together.

People come to Rolfing for all kinds of reasons. Some are athletes looking to improve performance and recovery, while others work long hours at a desk and are experiencing associated pain & discomfort. Some are looking for emotional/somatic processing as part of the bodywork and our practitioners are well-equipped to engage in dialogue with you around that. Many of our clients have never really felt quite “ok” in their bodies or have never fully recovered from an injury and have found that most other modalities don’t produce lasting effects. Our clients often report improvements in their body awareness and we believe that awareness is key to making the changes stick, or integrate.

What to Expect

Rolfing uses a combination of myofascial mobilization (bodywork), movement repatterning, somatic processing, and client education to produce lasting changes in pain, excessive tension, joint stiffness or laxity, “stuck” emotions, posture and/or athletic performance. The touch operates on a spectrum from subtle to intense, and superficial to deep, but should never feel like too much or a “bad kind of pain.” More/harder pressure is not always better, and sometimes the body responds well to a gentler and more nuanced approach. You are encouraged to provide feedback to your Rolfer® so that together you can tailor an approach that works best for you.

We’ll begin with a thorough intake to understand your body history, conditions, and goals for the 10 sessions. Then, your Rolfer® will take a visual assessment of how you do ordinary movements like walking, standing, moving your limbs and breathing. This informs the work to come and will be reassessed during and/or after the session to observe any changes.

Sessions are 65-90 min long. Some folks opt to include Private Yoga or Breathwork in their treatment plan which may be scheduled separately as a 60 min session, or as a 25 min add-on to your Rolfing appointment.

New Clients - The Ten Series is our recommended treatment protocol. You are welcome to schedule a free phone consultation and/or 90 min introductory session to begin with. Then, if it mutually feels like a good fit, we’ll schedule the remainder of your 10 sessions. The ideal cadence is 1-2 weeks in between sessions.

Returning Clients - You are welcome to schedule recurring maintenance sessions (65 or 90 min) which we’d typically hold every 2-4 weeks. These can be for Rolfing, Thai Bodywork, Private Yoga or a combination. I may also be able to accommodate drop-ins.

“Chelsey is extremely chill and grounded. She’s a great listener and communicator. She’s creative and open while being rooted in a tradition of wisdom. I went into Rolfing hoping to cure a shoulder injury. There has been some resolution, but more importantly I’ve found a new connection with my body that is invaluable and inspiring. I see the Ten Series as a kind of introduction to a new journey inward, not prioritizing the mind as the door to self but rather elevating the needs and sensations of the limbs/nerves/organs etc. as equal members and equally worthy of my focus and attention. I highly recommend doing the first trial session to see if it’s right for you.”
