    “This provides a summary of my EMDR experience with Edna earlier this year.

    BACKGROUND:

    I was having ongoing fears when driving in any unfamiliar location. The fear had been growing in intensity over the past couple of years and I even started having the same anxiety driving in very familiar places.

    As you can imagine this fear was making my life fairly limited as I would restrict my activities to prevent having to drive in situations that would activate my fear & anxiety.

    EMDR EXPERIENCE:

    I started working with Edna, and was surprised at how easy and unintrusive the process was. Edna and I went through my history and the various upsetting moments of my life. And I was surprised that we were exploring things other than my fear of driving.

    But after just a few weeks of working together I started noticing a shift in my everyday interactions. Things that would normally cause a great deal of agitation—like pressure from my boss—no longer got to me. In the past, when getting pressure at work my first thought would be “what did I do wrong?” That was the first thing that really shifted for me. I simply stopped doubting myself in many situations. I felt more calm & in control.

    Then, over a few weeks, stress while driving became minimized. And ironically we never even focused directly on driving situations. By chipping away at underlying contention from my childhood it resolved many areas of my life today. Fear of not being in control, of being or getting lost had been paralyzing me while driving. And it simply stopped after just a couple months of EMDR.
