Somatic Psychotherapy

“The spirit is the life of the body seen from within, and the body the outward manifestation of the life of the spirit - the two being really one.” ~ Carl Jung

Somatic Psychotherapy acknowledges and works with the powerful interplay between the mind, body, and spirit. It is very common to “know” what we desire with our rational mind and still not feel able to generate true, lasting change in our lives, unless we’re unwinding the core patterns that are stored deep in our psyche and soma.

We are hard-wired to heal and perpetually seek greater levels of wholeness; the parts of us that had to go underground in our past are designed to keep resurfacing until they have been resolved and integrated…freeing us to inhabit our most alive, empowered,
and joyful selves.

Your body contains within it all of your history, traumas, past hurts, future longings and deepest wisdom. It knows what you need to feel whole and complete. By befriending and listening to our body’s messages, we tap into our powerful inner knowing and guidance system. We’ll work directly with your physiology and nervous system, not only the story of what has happened, in order to gently resolve stored traumas at their root and gain access to an embodied intelligence that goes way beyond what we can “know” with the rational mind.

Somatic Psychotherapy might be a good fit for you if:

  • You’ve experienced little or no significant change with more traditional talk therapy

  • You find yourself continually looping in uncomfortable patterns despite the insights you’ve gained

  • You feel “stuck” or confused around life choices or transitions

  • You feel a disconnect between what you desire and what is continuing to show up in your life

  • You find it difficult to be present, feel a sense of dread about the future and/or ruminate on the past

  • You experience challenges in relationships that feel hard to understand or manage

  • You are easily triggered and activated

  • You experience overwhelming or confusing symptoms in your mind and/or body

  • You feel disconnected from your body, clarity, and intuition

  • You already have an embodiment/spiritual practice and are looking to deepen your relationship with your body’s wisdom

What to Expect

This work is inherently creative, a collaboration that evolves moment to moment. It is in the present moment that our creative potential exists — this is where true change can happen. We’ll explore together what is happening in the present moment and what is wanting to emerge, and incorporate body awareness, visualization, breathwork, mindfulness practices, inner child work and Gestalt therapy methods to allow for deep integration and change to be felt on a cellular level. We’ll begin with a free phone consultation to make sure that this type of therapy is the right fit for you at this time.

“Heidi Schaul-Yoder really is a particularly talented therapist.  She somehow manages to stay with you -- emotionally and cerebrally -- through the whole session.  She is gentle and kind but also wise and skilled.  I felt like I was with a really smart person who cared about me and also really knew what she was doing.  She helped me understand myself better and with more compassion.  She's a rare thing.”
