Physiyoga

An innovative, therapeutic training program combining the modern science of movement with the holistic approach of yoga. This combination of techniques offers a healing modality that is unique in the field and tailored to you.

Movement for the body you live in.

“It’s my passion to distill my thousands of hours of cross-disciplinary training into relevant, experiential education and total reset for your body, mind and spirit. Rather than trying to mask symptoms and missing the bigger picture, I zoom out and view you as a whole person to facilitate long-lasting and profound systemic change.”

- Chelsey Kapuscinski, Certified Physiyoga Instructor, Certified Rolfer®, Thai Bodyworker, Somatic Experiencing® student

What is Physiyoga?

Physiyoga is a therapeutic training program which applies the principles of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and strengthening with the practice of yoga in pursuit of optimal functioning of a healthy body.* It’s useful for anyone looking to prevent or treat injuries, optimize athletic performance, reduce pain, tension and stress, and support mental balance. We start out with a thorough assessment of your goals, conditions and health history to create a customized treatment plan that combines private one-on-one Physiyoga sessions with a home exercise program. Our treatment plan will include a broad range of tools like functional movement assessment, breathwork and rolling; myofascial release and strengthening exercises, and experiential education about pain science, movement mechanics and alignment. Because the work is holistic, we can also include dialogue about lifestyle factors that may be influencing the body’s condition that we are trying to improve, such as stress, work, exercise, social connections, spirituality, somatics, diet and sleep.

*Physiyoga is not physical therapy and is not a substitute for the diagnosis and treatment available in a traditional physical therapy setting.

What sets Physiyoga apart?

I believe that virtually none of us got the physical education we need in order to fully enjoy a life of freedom, ease, mobility and longevity. Many of us have adopted sub-optimal movement and breathing patterns due to the dramas and traumas of life, from injuries and surgeries to psychoemotional patterns that affect how we move and feel in our bodies. The antidote to this is receiving tailored, holistic support and guidance. That’s why it’s my passion to distill my thousands of hours of cross-disciplinary training into relevant, experiential education and total reset for your body, mind and spirit. Rather than overly focusing on localized symptoms and missing the bigger picture, I zoom out and view you as a whole person to facilitate long-lasting and profound change.

In service of your goals, I’ll look at how all parts of the body are interacting via fascia and kinetic chains, as well as how your nervous system is functioning to allow for change. We’ll collaborate to co-create more resilient, efficient, strong and mobile movement patterns so that you can live your life more fully and enjoyably. This process of changing long-standing or complex patterns takes time, effort and consistency. The good news is that it is often fun, fascinating, feels good, and best of all, it works!

How Does Physiyoga Work?

7 Phase restoration process that holistically resets the body from head to fingers and toes, using the principles and practices of the Physiyoga Method.

  1. Phase 1 Breath & Core

  2. Phase 2 Kinetic Chains: Feet and Lower Limb

  3. Phase 3 Hip Strength & Mobility

  4. Phase 4 Kinetic Chains: Hands and Upper Limb

  5. Phase 5 Shoulder Strength & Mobility

  6. Phase 6 Spinal Health

  7. Phase 7 Integration

Consider these 7 Phases as a general map that will guide us throughout a holistic course of treatment. No two courses of treatment look exactly alike; We’ll tailor the sessions to your individual needs, interests and goals while remaining rooted in the proven methods of Physiyoga. It’s good to plan for at least 7 sessions, 1 per phase, though it may be the case that we’ll want to spend more time and dive more deeply into particular area(s) of focus. My goal is to have you leave each session feeling better than you did when you walked in, and to integrate the changes with a customized self-care program based on which exercises landed best for you, and how much time you have for practice.
