Embodied Living Urban Retreat

  • Kadampa Meditation Center 119 N 11th St, Brooklyn, NY 11249 Brooklyn, NY 11222 (map)
BMC Urban Wellness Retreat

Our bodies are self-healing and our minds naturally seek homeostasis, but how often do we become stuck in painful patterns? Through experiential learning guided by NYC's top holistic health providers, we'll learn powerful yet simple embodiment practices to get unstuck and support growth and healing on all levels: mind, body, spirit and community.

WHY WE CREATED THIS:

At Brooklyn Mindbody Collective we believe that the benefits of self-healing and self-care are amplified when practiced in a group setting. We draw from years of clinical experience to bring you the practices that we’ve found to be the most powerful for shifting out of pain and dis-ease and into feeling clear, centered, grounded and aligned.

We want to bring our community together for a day of deep reset, without the exorbitant cost and travel complications of a typical retreat.

WHO THIS IS FOR:

Coming together to take a deep breath and reset through 7 unique workshops including yoga practice

This one of a kind retreat is for our fellow New Yorkers who are trying to juggle everything… and feeling the pressure build up.

It’s for those who know that something feels off… the physical and mental tensions are loud and clear… but who struggle to know what to do about it and make the time to really reset.

Perhaps you’ve developed yourself spiritually and mentally, through talk therapy, mediation and/or psychedelic experiences, and now you’re curious about integrating your body into your growth.

While it’s open to all, it’s also ideal for wellness practitioners who spend all day caring for others and need to refill their cup so they can carry on doing what they love.

Our aim with this retreat is to help you fall in love with life again, to feel connected within your mind-body-spirit and between self/nature/other.

We’ll be teaching simple yet powerful practices that harness the innate healing potential you hold within your own body, so you’ll learn how to return to homeostasis whenever you need to.

Classes will be taught “OPEN LEVEL” - feel free to reach out with any questions!

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

  • This open-level flow style class inquires into how and where in the body we experience joy, and its opposite, fear. The goal is not to eradicate fear and only experience joy, but to embrace both as important aspects of self. Guided through the ancient wisdom traditions of Chinese Medicine and Indian Yoga, students will be invited to explore the sensations and pathways of emotion in the physical body.

  • In this workshop, you will gain a deeper understanding of how to effectively utilize your diaphragm for breathing. As the primary muscle responsible for respiration, learning to use it properly can assist in transitioning from a state of fear or anxiety to a steady and relaxed state.

  • In this thirty minute guided meditation we will explore and practice how to utilize our own bodies’ abilities to reduce stress, heal and bring vitality for wellness.

  • Our body is wired to deal with stress using tension.  But tension only causes more tension.  Learning to trust in relaxation is the only way to unleash our bodies true potential.  This workshop will use the principles found in Taichi to learn how to rewire your natural reaction to stress, and instead unlock the bodies innate ability to remain centered and relaxed.

  • This workshop will be a creative, embodied exploration of what it means to feel safe within the home of your body. You’ll learn to identify and work with cues of safety and threat within your nervous system, from the perspective of Gestalt therapy, polyvagal theory, the chakra system and somatics. We’ll all come away with a personalized toolkit to return to regulation and access undeniable safety and trust no matter our inner or outer circumstances.

  • In this thirty minute session we will discuss areas of movement science that is often overlooked when exercising, training and conditioning that are important in helping to prevent injuries. We will integrate these ideas in a movement activity together.

  • This class will begin with gentle guided self-massage to ease tension held in the face, neck, shoulders, hands, and feet. After a short warm-up, we will move into a restorative yoga practice including a series of supported seated and reclined poses held for several minutes each to create the conditions for rest. You will learn how to use props and the space to facilitate comfort, simple meditation tools, and self-massage techniques to unwind. Through stillness and reflection, you will have the opportunity to integrate the material from your other workshops.
